From as far back as I can remember I have had the desire to go somewhere new. The idea was always in the back of my head but, when I was younger, I viewed travel as something for other people with more money or better circumstances. My childhood wasn’t filled with vacations to Disneyworld or road trips to the Grand Canyon. Although, I remember it fondly, the little traveling I did were mostly quick road trips to neighboring states. My first real vacation and flight were at the age of 25 to Las Vegas, (insert obligatory “Woohoo!”). The most prominent memory was the “away” feeling I experienced. I distinctly remember receiving a text about work from a coworker and disliking the invasion. I had temporarily escaped my everyday life of responsibility and problems needing solutions and didn’t like being reminded of what would need to be accomplished upon my return to work. For once, I felt I was living fully in the moment and the constant longing to for a new place and experience was temporarily pacified.
Once the travel bug crawled in my brain and nestled in safely, (Let’s take a moment to appreciate the imagery and cue fears of travel to tropical locations with burrowing brain parasites), I started reading travel blogs which provided valuable tips for saving money, time and frustrations. It was then I realized even with a small budget and limited time off, there were ways to travel to the places I had previously thought were not possible. The more I learned, I shared my knowledge with those around me and I quickly realized, not everyone was as travel crazed as I was. Some didn’t always know where to look or even that there were resources available online. I know it sounds strange because the internet is basically the go-to resource for everything. But honestly, if you don’t know what you are looking for, how do you find it?
